We spent our last day in Cape town taking a full day wine tasting tour. South Africa is covered in wineries and there are tons of them right outside of Cape Town.
We tried to book with a company that a friend of mine recommended but they were completely full on the day we were available, so we ask the guys that run the B&B we are staying at for a recommendation...they bring over 2 pamphlets for 2 different tour companies that they say they always send their guests on.
Well, we both were immediately turned off by both of them.... the one we initially tried to book cost around $60 and included 4 wineries, free lunch, chocolate tasting, bitang tasting(South African beef jerky) and cheese tastings for the whole day....Both of the brochures were charging $80 for a whole day to only taste 6 wines and both excluded lunch (not to mention the one had "Free wifi on the bus" posted all over the place....totally didn't sound like the kind of crowd we were aiming to join...and very poor value for money in my opinion).
So with a little googling I found a company that charged $65 for a full day, including 5 wineries, close to 30 wines tasted, free cheese, bitang tastings and free lunch. It was run by a charismatic man who has tons of passion for wine and was great fun to be around.
One of the wineries made great goat cheese and we got to play with baby goats! |
The Tour was fantastic, we ended up being in s group of 4 with another couple that we got along well with and wow.....so much great wine.....too much great wine.
It was flowing VERY freely all day and by the time we got dropped off at the hotel at 5pm we were completely wasted...like pass out drunk. It somehow snuck up on me and I have no idea how it happened!
We slept right through dinner and I woke up incredibly hung over at 11pm and proceeded to complain and feel utterly crappy all night and most of the next day. Now that the hangover has passed I can look back and remember a super fun day, even though it kicked me in the butt!!
