We had a fantastic day yesterday on our winery tour! We went on a cycling winery tour where you ride mountain bikes between the different wineries.
The weather was amazing, not a cloud in the sky and the views of the Andes mountain in the distance were spectacular.
Our guides name was Sergio and another couple, Sarah and Tom from Norway, were with us.
We biked about 18km through really scenic roads that cut through the vineyards. Sergio drove behind us a la Tour de France in his support vehicle!
We visited two wineries: Belesco De Baquedana and Torrentes.
The bike riding got a little crooked after the first winery and by 12:30pm we were completely loaded!
There was an amazing 4 course meal with different wines for each course...which they kept filling as long as you were drinking.
At one point....prior to the first course I might add...I locked myself in the bathroom in my drunken state and me and Sue laughed hysterically about it for the rest of the meal....and through the next winery tour we had the giggles.
It was an amazing day; the wine and food were delicious, the biking was great and we got back to the hotel in time to sit by the pool for a couple hours before the sun set.
The strike in Argentina ended up happening and everything was closed here today, including all domestic flights out of all the airports....checked the departures board this am for Mendoza Airport and all flights are cancelled. We are so glad we re-booked our flight and changed our plans. It would have been a nightmare to get out of here otherwise.
We also received a 50peso credit for the casino at our hotel when we checked in and I insisted we throw it in the slots today before we leave. Neither of us are gamblers but we managed to figure out the machine and I quickly increased our 50 pesos into $20 so Sue insisted I cashed out with $10 each!
Yes, Sue is rolling her eyes...she thought I was taking her down the evil road of gambling! haha |
We had all of today here, as we planned on flying to BA, with no plans. Sadly, the sun left us again with a cool rainy day so pool time was out of the question. Almost all of the stores were closed as well, due to the strike, (a lot of the restaurants too) so shopping was out also. There are lots of nice parks here, thankfully, so we went for an afternoon walk and just vegged out.
Tomorrow we fly to BA super early, 6:55am!!!, but beggars can't be choosers!
